Gamer’s Journal, My New Column

The purpose of me writing on this blog is mainly to express my thoughts on video games, Christianity, and how they intersect. Recently, I have felt a little boxed-in and wanting to write about other topics. Some of the topics I want to put to digital paper do not relate to gaming, or maybe they do but not so explicitly. I decided that the best way to rectify this, aside from creating an entirely new blog, is to make a new column! I learned this from writing over at Beneath The Tangles is to create sections for what you want to write. It would not make sense for me to go out of my way and make a blog just to write about my life experiences, thoughts, biblical lessons, or randomness somewhere else.

So what will this column, Gamer’s Journal, mainly be about? It will be random and not on any particular day, nor will it focus on the same thing every time. I want this to be a place where I can write about what is going on in my own life. It could be about church, video game news, God, or just plans I have for this website. I don’t really know, and that’s what I love the most. It is my blank canvas, and how I chose to paint it is OK. Too many times, we are afraid to just do things and not focus on the “what ifs”.

What if I fail?

What if no one likes it?

What if I get criticized?

What if I don’t make any money, or I chose the wrong job/spouse/home etc. etc.?

I say that because I deal with the same thoughts, and I believe most of us do. There are so many ideas, businesses, plans, relationships, adventures and more that we could explore but we never do. Hesitation, procrastination, fear of making a mistake, all of that holds us back. My way of combating those thoughts is to say to myself, “what’s the worst that could happen?”. Usually, it’s not much, or I might lose some money which will come back anyway because I have a job.

I am trying to live my life more and more each day without fear. Not everyone has the capability, luxury, or resources to take bigger risks, but we can all take small ones right where we are. It might be starting a conversation, writing down an idea, or applying for a job. I want to encourage you to go out and start what you’ve been wanting to do.

Pray and ask God to give you the courage, ideas, and even the necessary people to push that forward. Don’t be scared, and if you are, do it afraid! My pastor preached that, and it stuck to me. Even this column, I’m doing it afraid because I’m not even 100% sure what I’m going to write in it.

What’s the worst that could happen? Not much! God bless, and enjoy the rest of your day/night.

Let me know what you’ve been wanting to do, and what’s been holding you back. I hope to be of service to you, even if it’s just to listen….er….digitally 🙂
