Platforms come and go. For me, before WordPress, it was Blogger, which I’m not sure anyone uses anymore. I’ve enjoyed being on WP, and I’m not leaving anytime soon, but I’m happy to have found another place to expand this ministry. Substack was put on my radar by my friends and fellow anime fans at Beneath The Tangles, and it’s also where I help out with the Above Anime newsletter.
It’s similar to blogging or WordPress, but it has a few features and an aesthetic that is different. Instead of a website with various themes, buttons, code, and too many features, Substack keeps it simple. When you go to any Substack, it’s pretty plain-looking yet has its own identity. There’s also an interesting paid add-on that can be utilized. I was confused at first when I saw it, since not everyone uses it. You can make it so that readers need to pay to see all of the article so they support the author/creator. It reminds me of Patreon since it can be a monthly membership. So similar to YouTube, which recently has a subscription model for some channels. It’s hard to convince followers to financially support an online ministry sometimes, so I’m glad it connects seamlessly with the site.
Community is another concern I’ve had, since I do not want to run anything large. You know what happens when dozens or even hundreds of people jump into a server…there are all sorts of fires to put out. I do have a Gaming & God Discord server that is very dormant, but I will be opening it to the public! Let me know if you’re interested, and I will send you a link before I put out a few posts about it. I would rather have a community where people can interact with me on Twitch or YouTube, but I doubt my server will be very big once I get it going. I have a family, business, and other responsibilities, so it’s hard to juggle it all. I give all that to God and pray He will lead me on how to handle a small gaming community if and when it does happen!
Another point about Substack that I enjoy is that I do not have to write very long posts. I hesitate to release content here because I know the amount of time it will take to make. Often, I’m just overthinking it, but it’s nice to have a place where I can just write 2-3 paragraphs and be done. SubStack is where I want to do that.
When you join my new Substack channel, you’ll find new posts that you will not find here. So it’s more of an exclusive community for my followers, and it will stay free unless you want to support it financially. No pressure at all, either way I want you to enjoy the content and be blessed.
You can find the link here and below, so I will see you over there. I only have two posts up at the time of this writing, but I have many in the works, and I hope to do more community-focused events and activities, so stay tuned! I’m still working all of this out one day at a time and just letting the Lord guide me on what He would like me to accomplish.
The focus for 2025 and going forward for Gaming & God is to make disciples. I don’t want to be another review site, gameplay YouTube channel, or write about random topics. Every piece of content I make or that others contribute to here at G&G will be to help believers in Christ grow in their faith, or lead others to Him, and get them plugged in. I will also be sharing more about this in an upcoming post!
God bless, and keep on gaming!
