APPetizer: Stained Glass – God’s Story

When you think of a Christian game in the AppStore, does Candy Crush, Farm Heroes, or Bejeweled come to mind? With Stained Glass, that’s exactly what you get! However, Lightside Games brings a story to your standard “match three” genre of game. There are actual cutscenes that unlock as you progress through levels, and each level passed adds stained glass pieces to a mosaic that unfolds as you advance in the game.

While the game style is akin to the apps mentioned above, one thing that brings this up a notch is the incredibly tight sounds and sound design. I would recommend playing this with the sound on, as the stained glass pieces that you collect make amazing clack sounds and Hillsong’s “Oceans” is remade into an ethereal, dreamy, and ambient glue that really binds the game together. The cutscenes have voice acting that doesn’t come across as cheesy. There is a sincerity to their portrayals of famous Biblical characters which goes well appreciated.

If you’re looking for an app that will help kill time, is a puzzle game that isn’t too puzzly, and carries a Biblical theme; then give Stained Glass a download, and let me know what you think!

Matthew lives in the Thumb area of Michigan with his wife of 10 years and their three children. His faith was planted while he was a young child and began to sprout at the age of 12. He has been a Christ-follower ever since. Filled with dad jokes, puns, and sarcasm so deep that he sometimes has to question himself about whether he’s being serious: Matthew is comfortably himself.
