My Geeky Faith: Gaming & God | Hoot & Howl

A while back I submitted a guest post to Shaneen from The Hoot & Howl blog about how I became a gamer and started my blog. It was a short post, but I’m glad it’s out and you can check it out! Be sure to follow her blog as she has lots of great content, as well as other My Geeky Faith origin stories from other Christians.

My Geeky Faith: Gaming & God

I love being a part of the vast community of Christian geeks and gamers, and discovering person by person just how vast the community is. Here is Michael from Gaming & God to share his story of geeky faith.

I have been playing video games since I was around 10 or so, and my first console was the NES. Smashing those two buttons and moving that D-pad is what made me happy. How was I to know that I was part of a “group” of people who liked games too? Geek culture basically snuck up on me! I didn’t know what it was nor the big deal of it all until later on in life, from college and on.

I have also enjoyed anime since the days of Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Slayers and others that caught my eye. I still watch to this day, as it’s always exciting to see how the characters seem real, as do the adventures they go on.

As a Christian, I wanted to see how I could combine both my faith and interests in gaming and anime. I wasn’t too sure how, but after spending time in prayer I felt that God gave me the idea to start writing about the two. It has been a blessing to share my experiences with gaming and anime online with other believers as well as non-believers and see God reveal biblical truths throughout what I play or watch.

When not conquering digital worlds in video games, he can be found reading, watching anime, listening to music writing, and just enjoying life as a geek in the city.
