Playstation Showcase 2021 Recap

Every year, several video game conferences happen to show off what is coming our way in terms of new games, consoles, technology or other updates. It’s exciting to watch with the rest of the world for the first time and get emotional or excited as to what’s coming down the pipe. It’s also a marketing strategy to prep consumer’s wallets, but that’s beside the point! Personally, I prefer to wait and not purchase games on release day, unless it’s one I’ve been waiting years to be released (Kingdom hearts 3).

This year’s PlayStation’s Showcase did not disappoint, and there were several surprises that I was glad to see. Without further adieu, let’s get into it and go over my favorite parts of the show.

List of new games and announcements (in no particular order). The ones in bold are the ones I personally am looking forward to the most.

This year’s PlayStation Showcase was short, but jam packed with quite a few teasers for upcoming titles. Nostalgia certainly sells, as every year we are seeing more games that were popular on past consoles getting remakes or remasters.

Knights of the Old Republic Remake is one I am sure fans were hyped to see. I have never played it but I know that many people enjoy it to this day, so I look forward to giving the remake a try.

Alan Wake Remaster is another great game that I have not played, but I actually own it on steam. It’s one of those PC only games that console gamers may have not heard of, so it’s good to see it get some fresh eyes. It’s a thriller game and it reminded me of The Last of Us. I need to play this one on Steam so I can see why it has been a popular game for several years.

The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection is an updated version of Uncharted 4 and the Lost Legacy, which is a DLC for the final game in the series. If you have not played Uncharted 1-3, there’s a remastered collection which I highly recommend. Play those first before getting this one as you will get lost somewhat in the story and not have a solid connection to the characters.

Some games I’m not interested in, like Tiny Tina’s Wonderland which looks like Borderlands, but with more craziness. I did like that they have Baby Metal’s music in the trailer! Ghostwire Tokyo looks like a creepy game set in Tokyo with lots of unusual technology, and what I saw didn’t make much sense so I don’t know what to think of it. I would like to watch some gameplay on this one to see what it’s about before I play it though.

Deathloop has received high ratings so far but is marked with extreme violence and gore. It has a twist whereas when you die, you have to restart again similar to Hollow Knight or Rogue Legacy. You can acquire new weapons to use on your next playthrough of that area so you are better prepared. I’m just not a fan of games that are this violent, so I will be passing on it.

Project Eve reminded me a bit of NieR, but with gore and horrific monsters. The graphics and gameplay look fantastic, with lots of action and an intriguing story. It seems that mankind lost to an alien invasion of the Earth, which left the planet crippled and in ruin. Eve is our heroine who is out to take back what is left from these other-worldly foes and uncover the secrets behind what happened.

The teasers at the end were what got me the most pumped! Marvel’s Wolverine, Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok are all games that I look forward to getting my hands on. I’ve beat Spider-Man and it was one of my favorite games that year, so I hope Wolverine will be in a similar vein as it was. Maybe they do something totally different and it just works. Seeing Venom as a enemy to Peter Parker and Miles Morales at once is going to be wild because he can certainly take them both on.

Let me know which games you enjoyed or are looking forward to from this year’s PlayStation Showcase! God bless.
