On September 16, 2020, Sony revealed all the details gamers wanted on the PS5. From the release date, pre-orders, prices, games, and gameplay footage, they let us have it all. It was a good day, yes, a very good day. I am a PlayStation fanboy, so I was excited to see what would be shared. Honestly, I did not watch it live as I was at work so by the time I got around to watching it had just ended. After watching the replay, reading what other outlets said and their reactions, I wanted to give my opinion on what I enjoyed the most.
Playstation 5 Price + Release Date
September 17 was the date announced for pre-orders. Did you get one? I’m going to wait till the hype dies down, as I usually do, but I’m looking forward to picking it up. It’s backwards compatible with the PS4, which is a first! I really hope they add compatibility for PS1-3 games. God answers prayer, so you never know what could happen.
The two editions are the disc less ($399) and standard version ($499), which plays both discs and digital games. The disc-less only plays digital games, which is an interesting route to take. That goes to show how many games are only played online and how few games are purchased physically in recent years.
Remember PS Plus? Well, there’s a new one called PS Plus Collection which gives you access to a slew of top tier games for the membership. I think this amazing because it’s really giving you lots of value! As long as you keep your membership active, these games are free. Those included so far are:
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Battlefield 1
- Days Gone
- Detroit: Become Human
- Fallout 4
- Final Fantasy XV
- God of War
- inFAMOUS: Second Son
- The Last Guardian
- The Last of Us Remastered
- Monster Hunter: World
- Mortal Kombat X
- Persona 5
- Ratchet & Clank
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Until Dawn
Of course, we can’t talk about the PS5 Showcase without talking about the games! The ones that I am personally looking forward to are:
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Spiderman: Miles Morales
- Oddworld Soulstorm
- God of War 2
I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan, so seeing a trailer for Final Fantasy XVI was exciting. It looks like it’s going back to the roots of the crystals, which are a recurring theme in older FF games. The scenes focus on some summons doing battle, and a medieval era which again, is a nod to the first games. I can only assume this FF will be reviving the magic of the original set of games.
Spiderman is such a good game, I am most looking forward to this one than all the other games. The first one really felt like you were Spiderman, and the scenarios were unique and kept you wanting more. It was hard to put the controller down, as it was like playing in a movie. If you have never played it, I highly recommend it. There is violence and vulgar language which might be a lot for a young child, but for an adult or older teen I thought it handled several real-life situations through the life of Peter Parker in positive ways.
Oddworld Soulstorm is just a silly game that is from an old series on the PlayStation. It’s a super hard game (for me it was!) that has you playing as Abe, trying to rescue his people from slavery from evil aliens. It has puzzles that will kill Abe if done incorrectly, or will bring his friends to a miserable end. If your looking for a fun and challenging game, check this one out.
There were several others that just didn’t interest me, but you can watch the entire showcase to see what else was shown. Be warned, some games are violent or disturbing. PlayStation has always set itself as being a more mature console for an older audience, so be careful if children are watching.
What did you enjoy the most from the PS5 Showcase? Will you be picking up a PS5, or your looking at the Xbox Series X instead? Let me know what your most excited about from the next gen consoles coming soon! This is a great time for gamers, God bless.
