My Issues With The Hatred Trailer

The upcoming game, Hatred, has made waves all over the internet and YouTube. The link that I just shared has the trailer for the game, and let me make a strong disclaimer here that the trailer is extremely violent, laced with foul language, blood, gore and disturbing images.

Seeing a game like this is nothing new in the video game world. We as gamers have been exposed to games from Mortal Kombat decades ago to Grand Theft Auto V, but like the writer from Kotaku mentioned,

“Hatred, if nothing else, pretends to do away with all aspirations toward anything except violence fueled by senseless rage and hate. That is its creators of definition of pure “entertainment.” Death and misery.”

hatred

I share the same views as the writer in that the violence in these other games always had a reason, usually it was for entertainment. Do I agree with these ultra gory games? Not at all, and nor do I play nor own any of them. I refuse to be a part of or support that gaming genre as a Christian. Those are my personal convictions, and not saying that I speak for the entire body of Christ, though I would challenge other Christians to pray and be led by Holy Spirit for guidance in what games they play.

With the rise of violence and mass murders occurring more and more in the USA, this game couldn’t have come out at a worse time. Of course, my opinion is that the makers of the game know this and they are taking advantage of a dark aspect of the human soul, hatred.

Where does hatred even come from, and are we all born with this innate feeling to hurt, kill and violate our fellow human beings? I don’t believe so, as we all know that most people are generally decent people. Nobody is perfect, but hatred comes from a person’s heart and what we store up in it. Imagine your heart as a storage container, and whatever you listen to, say, watch or who you spend time with will influence it. Your actions, words and thoughts will manifest from what you have stored and the outcome are the decisions we make every day.

The bible is clear on where the source of all evil stems from:

Matthew 15:19

19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.

Jeremiah 17:9
9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things,
and desperately wicked.
Who really knows how bad it is?

Mark 7:21
21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,

I honestly hope the game doesn’t get released, but hey, it might just for the sake of entertainment. People always want more, they love pushing the edge and seeing the next big thing.

What are your thoughts on this? Have you seen the trailer? What were your reactions? Let me know below! God bless.

I agree that things are getting out of hand more than ever in every area of the media, entertainment, politics and education. People have always excused themselves for playing or participating in bad things saying that it doesn’t have any effect in their personal actions or decisions, but that couldn’t be more wrong. People are inspired or motivated by what they hear, see, or do, if you see someone that is into heavy metal they are usually gothic because all it is about is death and rebellion, worldly rappers are foul mouthed and violent, and so on. We need to take a stand and bring light to this darkness.

Sorry, but I need to disagree with your heavy metal stereotype. I’ve been a metalhead for years, both secular metal and now Christian metal, and I’ve never been “Gothic”. I didn’t listen to metal because it was about death and rebellion (not all of it is, BTW), I listened to it because I liked the sound. Metal tends to be more musically proficient. I know others and know of others who listen to metal, and none of them fit your stereotype that I can think of. Sorry if I sound overly defensive, but I do get tired of false stereotypes. Another would include the ” all video gamers are basement dwellers who live with their parents”.
